Rope holds its shape and does not fold over on itself, which makes it easier to grab in a hurry. Webbing is flatter under a harness and slightly lighter. On a long-coated dog, rope is generally kinder to the coat; on a short-coated one it makes little difference.
Woven in rather than surface-printed, so it survives the collar rather than flaking off after a season of wet walks. It is not a substitute for a light on a dark road, but it means a driver's headlights pick your dog out at distance.
